About OKC Homeschool Robotics

The Oklahoma City Homeschool Robotics Team was formed to give a better understanding of how to use science, technology and the engineering process. Teaching these skills as well as other life skills are crucial for students discerning their future career. We were formed in 2005 through the efforts of coaches Larry McWilliams, Jeff Finnell and Stuart Boyes. The team itself consists of both homeschool and public school students from Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. The team as a whole is made up of many students, with various ages and grade levels. We as a team are devoted to furthering the knowledge of engineering and other sciences amongst our peers and our community. But most of all we are devoted to safety oriented fun and life long lessons.

At the start of the season we meet 3 times a week at the Oklahoma College of Construction, and as the season drags on our meeting times seems increase exponentially. We go through the various steps of the engineering process and experience things that we may never of been able to without BEST. Our Coaches, Mentors, and Team Captain always attempt to replicate the engineering process as similarly as possible, and performing some team quality control. Usually this is done by having quizzes for the team to ensure the driver and spotters are the most qualified for the jobs, student based brainstorming sessions, and them trying the be the voice and not the action. We are a team that is well delegated which helps with the organization and efficency of jobs needing to be done, we feel that its our non cookie cutter ways that helps us find not only success but victory as well.

With our steadfast and adamant ways as well as our strong foundation in Christ we feel it is what has gotten us closer and closer to victory these past 3 years. With the BEST Award as well as Robotics Competition 1st place award at the OKC Hub in both 2008 and 2009, as well as 1st in the BEST Award at the OKC Hub in 2010, and 2nd at Frontier Trails in 2008, we are looking to take home gold in 2010! And on that note we want to thank our many sponsors, families, coaches, mentors, and friends that have helped us thus far, we don't plan on letting you down.
