Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Robot Demo at the Choctaw Public Library
We traveled to the big city of Choctaw and displayed our 2011 BEST robot as well as our 2011 FRC robot. The audience loved it and asked all sorts of questions about robotics and our team.

Recently Announced
FRC Team #2395 Captain wins NCWIT award.
Our own Katrina Hammonds, 2012 Captain of the FIRST Robotics 4-H Team 2395: Ninja Munkees and homeschooled student, was recently awarded BOTH the Local/Affiliate and the National "2012 NCWIT (National Center for Women and Information Technology) Award for Aspirations in Computing." This award recognizes young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Award-winners are selected for their demonstrated, outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology/computing; solid leadership ability; good academic history; and plans for post-secondary education. We are so proud of Katrina and her accomplishments. Being recognized with the NCWIT Award makes her a role model and shines a spotlight on women and computing.

Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Meeting at ITT Technical Institute.

We did some important team planning to prepare for the kickoff on Saturday, January 7, 2012.

The meeting started with Eli Jones, ITT representative, giving the students and parents a short talk on the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) higher education. He also told us about what ITT Technical Institute has to offer students after they graduate from high school.


December 13,15, and 19 2011: Ninja Munkee Boot Camp
This was a great "camp" to go to and learn about FIRST robotics, how to prepare, and how to do the engineering process. Hosted by our master Ninja Munkee mentor, Garrett.


Saturday, December 17, 2011: FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) State Championship
Several of us went and volunteered at this event.

December 9-10, 2011: Frontier Trails BEST
Only the best "BEST" robots are selected from the Oklahoma City OKBEST hub to compete at Frontier Trails BEST. Ours was one of those robots.

November 12, 2011: SOS (Sciencing On Saturday)
Our FRC and BEST teams joined together to put together an event we call Sciencing on Saturday. Several elementary age children came to the OSU extension office and we taught them about Science, Technology, and ROBOTS. Not only was this a community service event, but it also served as a fundraiser for our team.


October 22, 2011: Community Service Project
Students involved with the BEST team participated in a Community Service project. Someone donated a lot of books to Friends of the Library and students from our team packed up these books and moved them.


October 21 and 22, 2011: FRC 2011 OK ROBOTICS RAMPAGE:
Location: Payne County Expo Center, Stillwater, OK.
Those involved with the FRC team got a chance to scrimmage with the robot we built last spring.


October 13, 2011: Boeing Meet, Greet, and Eat.

Boeing (our FRC sponsor), hosted an event called "Meet, Greet, and Eat". It was an informative session where we got to meet the other Boeing sponsored teams and talk about how our teams can help each other.


October 8, 2011: OKBEST Competition

The BIG event for those on our team that compete in the OKBEST. Our team did a great job. 2nd place in the overall BEST award, and 4th place with the robot.

September 24, 2011: Our FIRST team went to the 2011 Great State Fair of Oklahoma to demonstrate our FRC robot and to promote robotics as well as 4-H. Our FRC robot was displayed in an exhibit at the State Fair and won first place (a blue ribbon).


September 24, 2011: Our BEST team went to Oklahoma Christian University and participated in "public display day" (formerly 'MALL' day). Our team got a chance to try out our robot on a real field and to check out the competition.


August 30, 2011: We gave an engineering inspiration talk to the Canadian County 4-H Robotics Club in Yukon, OK.
Several from our team went and talked to the Canadian county 4-H Robotics Team about the BEST robotics competition.


August 27, 2011: OKBEST Kickoff.
We found out about the 2011 challenge. BUGS! The competition will be held on October 8, 2011.


August 27, 2011: Oklahoma County Free Fair
At the same time we were learning about BUGS for the BEST competition, we were showing our FRC robot at the county fair. Our FRC robot won a blue ribbon. It was also selected to be shown at the State Fair in September.


August 20, 2011: OKC Homeschool BEST team - Pre-kickoff Team Building
With the OKBEST kickoff only a week away, the coaches of the BEST team thought it necessary to put together a team building session. Garrett gave a presentation about the engineering process. Later Coach Larry had the students participate in a fun engineering challenge called "Spaghetti cantilever".


August 20, 2011: OKBEST Boot Camp
The nice folks at OKBEST presented a pre-kickoff workshop designed to get us familiar with the control system being used for the upcoming OKBEST season.

August 11, 2011: Edmond Homeschool Fair
Coley J, one of our students who participates in both the BEST and FIRST competitions, set up a display at the Edmond Homeschool Fair. He talked to several people about robotics and as a result of his efforts, several interested parents called and asked us for more information.


July 23, 2011: Oklahoma County 4-H Kickoff
We showed off robots at the Oklahoma County 4-H kickoff.


April 27, 2011: DASNR Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol
We take any chance we can get to show off our robots and to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to the general public. When our team was offered the chance to show our robots at the Oklahoma State Capital, we jumped!


April 14, 2011: Presentation to the AT&T Telephone Pioneers, OKC Life Member Club
This local chapter of the AT&T Telephone pioneers is one of our biggest supporters. We were excited to come and talk to them about our robotics team and the competitions we are involved in.
